If you were wondering how strong the power of love was you can look no further than the Armstrong family.  Man, these people are strong and soft all at the same time.  Krissy and Nick love their little girls, Sophie and Mary Kate, as much as you all love your kids, no doubt, but the sheer power of hope and love and tenacity is palpable in this crew.  And damn, they look good, don’t they?  I love these people SO MUCH.  As soon as I walked in the door and saw their enormous wall gallery of photos I’ve taken over the years I burst into tears.  Never once will they regret turning a room into a living art gallery of their family.

You guys, your support of me and my career is so madly appreciated.  I love you all so so so much.  It’s an honor that you trust me to document your lives.  I love you all.  Thank you.

Man, am I lucky.   Josh and Lindsey are some of my very favorite people, never mind clients!  And photographing them as their beautiful life unfolds is some kind of honor!  Little Vivian, who is Josh but smaller and a girl, has been on planet earth for a full rotation.  How cool is that.  She’s as hilarious and fun and upbeat and beautiful as her parents and we chased her all around their beautiful home and Thomas Park until it was time to nap again.  Being one is rad.

Here she is as a newborn and in Lindsey’s belly.
I cannot wait to continue to watch this family just get better and better and more full of love.  Wouldn’t wish this beautiful life on two truly cooler people.  I absolutely love them, they’re the very best of the best.  Honestly.  Enjoy.  I love you guys.  Thank you so so so so much for your trust and your support.  love.

This is a super special shoot for me so I’m honored to post it, and I have Alex’s permission to do so..so hi Alex! 🙂

I met Jackie, the mama of this fine family, at Squam Art Workshops (click on the link and sign up.  See you there!).  It was there that she told me about her daughter, Alex, who is living (like a bad ass) with alopecia (an auto immune disease that causes hair loss in some or all areas of the body).  Jackie talked about Alex’s bravery and beauty and strength which didn’t surprise me, of course, because those are some of the things Jackie exudes.  I pretty much immediately offered to come to Chicago to spend a day with Jackie and Alex, little sis Kate, big brother Jake, and dad/husband extraordinaire Roger.  Sure glad I did because this family is RAD!!  Wow.  What nice (nice nice nice) people they make in Illinois! 😉  Every single member of this family is a kind, generous, low key, friendly, outgoing, sweetheart.  It was a total honor to spend the day with them.
As for Alex, well… I mean… think about what it was like to be 14.  Probably wouldn’t go rushing back there if you had a time machine, huh?  Remember the utter bullshit you had a FIT over.
yeeeeaaaaa….. I won’t elaborate on that.
Alex, my sister.  You. Are. A. Star.  Your kindness and beauty is all anyone does or ever will see.  You have been given a test that few could handle at any age, and you have not let it get even close to your heart.  You are a commander in what it means to love and accept yourself.  We are ALL headed for that lesson, and we will need you to show us how it’s done. You ARE love. You ARE peace.  You are strength.  And beauty… (and a perfect fucking head! hahaha).  . Keep your head up and those eyes bright.
You get out there and show em how it’s done with grace.
Thank you all for trusting me to come into your home with my camera.  You make all my dreams come true, and I am madly inspired by every one of you.  Thank you.

YAY!  I met Marney at Squam Art Workshops (if you haven’t heard of it yet, do y’self a favor and click on that link and then sign up. It’s THE BEST!!).  She told me all about her great kiddos, I told her I love to travel, and the rest is history.  I’m SO stoked I did this shoot… Marney is *incredibly* creative and talented, and her style and home are gorgeous.  Her whole vibe is this modern girl scout camp, outdoorsy, crafty, feminine but in a bad ass girl scout way. Her and her awesome husband and two girls live just outside Ann Arbor (which might be my new favorite town), and everything about her family is lovable and beautiful and fun.

The day I got there I met them at their home, but the next day was our scheduled shoot and it was raining.  Marney was cool and generous enough to get me a hotel room so we did the whole shoot IN my hotel lobby and indoor pool area.  On a rainy Wednesday in November we had the place to ourselves and we had SUCH a great time! Yowza!  The girls felt like rock stars, I was sweating I was having so much fun, and Marney loved every second.  Man, that was fun!
Thank you to the whole Wolf family!  I absolutely love you guys, and I can’t wait to watch you grow up into the budding artists you are.  Marney, you’re killin it, sis.  Thanks for bringing two great women into the world. Your creativity and love could fill the whole world.  Thank you so much for your trust in me.  Love.

Well, it’s been a full year since the Lasky family won the award for Most Steps Ever Taken In Orlando (not actually true).  Last year I went to Disney World with my best friend, Kristen, and her absolutely awesome family , and this year we were back in their own little Disney which is their home in Osh Kosh, Wisconsin.

Side note: I fostered four puppies and their mama over the winter and Kristen adopted one of the puppies (the sweetest one) named Dixie. As you can imagine, this was like visiting the child I had given up for adoption so Dixie is highly featured in this year’s edit.
This is my 8th year visiting Kristen and her family, and if you haven’t been following these photographs, you definitely should check out our first year right HERE.
I’m not sure what happened over the past year, but Kristen’s babies are all. grown. up.  Funny how that happens: how they age, but we don’t. 🙂 weird.
Well, there’s not much to say about Kristen Lasky and her wonderful life that I haven’t said in all the past years.  She is more beautiful in her spirit than she is to look at…which is probably hard to believe if you don’t know her, but trust me.  And she’s enjoying a really wonderful marriage to maaaaaybe the best man ever, three healthy, hilarious, talented, smart, gorgeous children, beautiful, healthy, loving, dedicated parents, three bad ass brothers, and a shit ton of friends who would actually stab someone for her.   I gotta say, I wouldn’t wish it on a better kid.  I’ve known her since I was three years old, I’ve called her my best friend every single day of all those years, and when I think of how well her life is turning out my enormous smile turns to tears of happiness.  What could be better.
I love you, Kris.  Thank you for letting me photograph you guys even though you say no every year.  Can I have those new boots you just got when you die?  please.
